Thanks for taking the time to read our membership blog. My name is Lisa Buda and I’m a relatively new addition to the membership team but I have learned so much in my short time here about why membership is a great way to save money and get privileges while supporting the Zoo!
Many of my family and friends ask, “What’s it like to work at the Zoo?” A lot of what I do consists of helping people to decide which membership level is best for their particular family’s situation. People often call the membership line at (585) 336-7212 or e-mail me at Lbuda@senecazoo.org to describe how many people are in their family or living in their household. They inquire about which level would be the best option when joining or renewing. Most often, the Household Basic level will suit them best, since it covers two named adults in the household with all that member’s children age 21 and younger. While this is our most popular level of membership, it certainly isn’t the only one. We try to find the right fit and best value for each potential member family.
When I explain the perks that come with being a member, people are often surprised at the advantages offered when supporting their local Zoo. One of the most enticing of our benefits is the Membership Reciprocal Program, which allows our members to save on admission to more than 170 other zoos and aquariums throughout the United States and Canada! Membership is a great way to enjoy the Seneca Park Zoo at home and to also enjoy fellow institutions when on the road visiting other cities.
In addition, there are member discounts on Zoo programs, camps, classes, birthday parties and special events. Our members receive 10% off at the ZooShop every day, too! There are levels that include two free member T-shirts and those that have special privileges. We even have levels for grandparents and single adults! Higher levels of membership can include exclusive parties, too. On Saturday, July 14, about 400 members at the Penguin Circle level enjoyed a delicious early morning breakfast, giveaways for their kids and a fascinating lion demonstration. This exclusive event was an extra benefit to show our gratitude for their extra support! Many of these families feel that perks like this one make their level the Zoo’s best value.
While Rochester gets blustery in the winter, please don’t forget that the Zoo is still open! We are a year-round facility and a Zoo membership is active for one full year from the time of purchase. We offer summer season early admission at 9:30 a.m. for our members and a convenient Express Check-in line. Make sure to visit us this summer, or any time of year, to enjoy the new A Step Into Africa Exhibit and our wonderful animals. As I tell my family and friends, “It’s a great place to work, membership is a terrific value and it is the Natural Place for Families.”
