Tracking member data is a team effort at the Zoo

Have you ever wondered what happens after you’ve filled out paperwork or an online form to join or renew as a Seneca Park Zoo member? Are you curious about what computer processing is necessary before you can receive personalized member cards, a newsletter or a renewal notice in the mail? Do you think about who tracks all the data for more than 15,000 member families? Well, that is our job and we’re happy to fill you in!

My name is Ruth Northrop and I am the Data Manager for the Seneca Park Zoo Society. Cassey Dickey, the Data Assistant, and I work all year long to keep your information up to date in the Zoo’s database. What are the benefits to being a part of that database? We can automatically send you renewal notices for faster and easier processing. If you lose something at the Zoo, like your wallet or photo ID, we can contact you immediately. We can provide you with your detailed giving history (just a reminder that your membership is tax-deductible). We keep your mailing address, telephone, e-mail or name change information updated so you won’t miss an issue of our quarterly newsletter ZooNooz. The Zoo’s terrific newsletter provides important information about upcoming programs and events, as well as updates on our animals and exhibits. I guarantee you’ll learn something new to share with your family and friends with every quarterly edition.

We also make sure your member cards have the exact level and expiration date and the proper names. In addition, we ensure that all your information is correct so your renewal notices reach you in a timely manner. This allows your family to quickly and simply complete a form and either mail it in or bring it to the Zoo’s Front Gate. We want you to renew annually before your membership’s expiration date. You won’t want to miss a day of benefits, like Express Check-In or discounts at the ZooShop. And you won’t miss any time by renewing early to beat the rush, since we add 365 days to your current expiration date.

A convenient way to renew or join the Zoo is through our online portal. In the next few weeks we will have a new online system that is even more user friendly and will allow you to create a user name and password. With your unique log in, you will be able to view your membership and donation history, as well as purchase a membership for yourself or as a gift certificate for a friend or family member. Did you know that special event tickets are also available for purchase online? You can even make a donation to the Zoo online! Save yourself a stamp, go green and try our online system. Cassey and I are excited about implementing the enhanced system very soon. Please visit www.senecaparkzoo.org now for more information on items that can currently be purchased through the Zoo’s Web site. And visit again in a few weeks for the newest upgrade.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know us and what we do. The next time you receive new member cards, the newsletter or a renewal notice, please take a moment to think about the Data Team working behind the scenes to make sure your experience becoming or staying a Seneca Park Zoo member is pleasant and efficient and your information is correct. We’re a team and it’s our job!
